Things To Do Before Leaving On Vacation

Going on vacation is an exciting time and there can be all kinds of last minute problems and annoyances that can arise that can keep you from taking care of things that you should before you leave. Unfortunately, remembering those things that you should have done later on is not going to help, so here are some things to be sure to check off on your list before you leave on vacation:

* Lock all doors and windows throughout the house.

* Unplug most electronic items especially those that are expensive or may have valuable data on them. These can include your TV set, stereo, and especially computers. If a storm comes through while you are away, these items can be damaged beyond repair simply by being plugged into the wall outlet, so remove that possibility before you leave. Also, if you use a modem it would be good idea to unplug it as damage can also happen due to the phone connection used.

* There is no need for your water heater to continue to operate at a high level since it will not be used throughout the time that you are gone, so turn it down to a low setting.

* Call and cancel your paper and mail delivery while you are gone. You certainly don’t want newspapers and mail piling up outside your home and sending a clear signal to burglars that your house is an easy target.

* Leave a radio or something going in the house that makes sound and can be viewed as an indication that someone is home.

* Disconnect the garage door so that it cannot be operated by remote control from the outside. Usually there is a lever that you can pull on the opener that can accomplish this easily.

* Unplug your washing machine hoses. These can easily break and if they do while you are away for several days it could cause near catastrophic flood damage to your home before you would be able to do anything about it.

* If you have pets make sure that they have an automatic feeder and plenty of food and water, if you choose not to board them in a kennel or leave them with someone else. Also be sure that the heating/AC system is set to keep things comfortable for them in the house while you are gone. If you do choose to leave your pets at home it’s a good idea to arrange for someone to stop by daily and check on them and spend a little time with them too.

There are other reminders that would be good to have on your away list too, but these should be a good start to help keep you focused on necessary items to take care of before leaving on any fun family vacations.

MC – Master of Ceremony – Compere

The MC of an event is the host or compère who has a variety of responsibilities that may include the making of the formal opening announcements, introduction of speakers, performers and the like, and any other interaction or communication that is required to be made with an audience to effectively manage proceedings at the conference, event or meeting.

By choosing a top MC, you can turn ‘just another event’ into something that is considered very special by those attending and will be recalled, with affection, for many years to come. How would you like to be remembered?

With masterful ability, a good MC can give your whole event a feel of quality. When evaluation score sheets are issued after the MC’s performance, event organisers often discover a feel-good factor prevails amongst the audience resulting in the whole event being scored substantially higher than was expected. A good MC has the ability to help everyone participating at a meeting to somehow exceed expectations. This is a powerful and useful skill practised by few and mastered by even fewer.

With regard to the fee required by an MC, hire the best available within your budget. The poise, presence, and a professional ability of an MC are often linked to how much you are prepared to pay. You get what you pay for! Attempt to save money by engaging a cheap, inexperienced, part-time MC and it could cost you dearly. How important is the event you are holding and how precious is your reputation as the organiser?

Engage the best MC available for your event and you can sit back and watch synergy in action with all of the positives that that phenomena produces.

A top MC is usually considered a ‘professional’ when he or she works full-time earning a living as an MC, and has a specialist and expert knowledge and understanding of what material content audiences like, and, how it must be related and relevant to the requirements and expectations of the event organiser.

A good MC meets everyone’s needs as a minimum. The best MCs continuously exceed expectations. That is why they reach the top and are considered the best.

A quality MC will have high ethics and respect any confidential information you share as part of the event briefings. Explain exactly what it is you would like to achieve by the end of your event, meeting or conference and an experienced MC will suggest how he or she might go about achieving the desired results.

When choosing your MC, it is worth considering what type of MC it is you require. For example would you prefer a formal MC, someone well versed in the protocol of formal events or someone who is part entertainer, compère, motivator or comedian? Type in your exact requirement into a search engine and you will quickly establish what is on offer.

Of course, your personal preference is a subjective test. Try to consider what type of MC your audience would prefer. Ideally, watch short show-reel videos of the MC in action, paying particular attention to the audience’s reaction to the performer.

The types of questions you should be asking yourself are ‘Has he or she an ability to quickly build a rapport with the audience?’ Considering the type of person you anticipate will make up the bulk of your audience you might ask ‘Is the MC’s material and style of delivery of a quality and standard the audience would appreciate at my event?’

Having identified the best potential MC for your event, my final recommendation is that you reserve their services as quickly as possible. There are lots of event organisers out there and relatively few professional MCs of quality to go around.

A top MC will understand the difficulties you, as an event organiser, are facing and provide a non-committal way in which you can hold their services, at least for a short period of time, whilst the final decisions etc are made.

I wish you every success with your event, conference or meeting. Happy MC hunting.

Rock And Roll Cruises 2011: Journey Back In Time

If you were a product of the fifties or just love the feel of that era then something you might love to do in 2011 is take a journey on a rock and roll cruise.

But that being said, you might also get the shock of your life.

The truth is that rock and roll cruises are not 1950’s inspired dancing cruises, they are multi-day hard rock concerts on cruise ships – and can be a whole log of fun.

You will notice that through the cruise, you will be able to meet and chat with members of the playing bands as well as other lovers of rock and roll. One of the great things is that most of these Rock and Roll cruises is that there is a questions and answers session with most of the bands (which is a huge thing for a lot of fans), as well as having an open mic room available for those who want to share their musical talent with the rest of the guests.

Now this type of cruise is not going to be for everyone so to stop from annoying those who are not interested in going on a cruise dedicated to rock, the organizers of these events book out the whole ship – meaning that you will not be annoying anyone.

If this sounds like heaven, there are quite a few of these rock and roll cruises setting sail in 2011. The main thing will be finding the ones that have the bands that you are interested in listening too and finding a group of friends to go with – because ever knows that concerts are best attended with friends.

snorkeling the Riviera Maya HD Sony HDR XR550

The snorkeling at the Gran Sirenis Maya Beach in the Riviera Maya is fantastic. The water is the right depth for allowing light to penetrate, many coral formation for fish to hide around and feed from and with the sun shinning above and little wave action makes taking video easy. We spend about 1 – 1.5 hours snorkeling in the warm water and the marine life we see leaves us speechless. We film with Sony HDR XR550 Handycams recording to an internal 240 GB hard drive and the camera is housed in a Sony Sport Pack which allows the camera to have approx. 17 of depth. Mostly we just float on top of the water and drift around. Music: Cosmo by Alexander Blu creativecommons.org
